compromised
2010, boston. i went to a book signing. the thing where an author comes up with a concept, writes a book about it, tours, sells copies at stores.
bought the book. met author. talked a moment. left with signed book & some feelings:
a) some seriously bad stuff is about to happen
b) author thinks we the unwashed masses are cannon fodder, that they will be ok
c) author not sharing the full truth for some reason. book is 5% of what's about to go down.
it was a person who was immersed in multiple streams of current events, different walks. a broker of information, public figure who swims in it all.
but even pundits, pontificators, professional liars, they can't do it totally. there are tells.
they say politics is acting for ugly people - and maybe writing this sort of made-for-influencing-speaking-tours book is this too, with even less acting skills? meet them irl and you will feel something. listen to what you feel.
