whoever you are, mindisboggled, thanks. you get it.
the goal here is as always, just to make a good piece of work. the means to this end have changed over time, but the vibe feels the same to me. it's a piece of where i'm at, a bit of worldview and experience, done with whatever i have around. while some of it has been called avant-garde, radical, boundary-pushing etc, i must stress that this is not my goal. if it happens and people enjoy, i am grateful. but i'm not setting out to be progressive in the sounds on purpose - the goal is simply to make good work with all the awesome textures we have available, to follow inspiration wherever it leads. feel it, do it, figure it out later.
this has necessarily made it a little difficult to classify, but it's not that hard. it's just hardcore punk. it's a mix of that starry-eyed optimism & defiant culture critique from my youth in massachusetts, carried on into the present day. a pretty specific thing which one must dive into to fully understand. it'll probably be this way all the time, no matter what sounds i might choose to work with in the future.
hc has traditionally been made by a band, and the live set is important. being a solo project currently, and not doing gigs for a bit, this is interesting. i guess you could think of me as a solo producer who is influenced by the hc? but... ehhh let's forget all that & just listen.
maybe i am unusual in that i still live in a world of audio first. i grew up without a lot of imagery - but had a radio - so i would tune in & imagine. this developed my mind in the audio realm. while my friends were learning about music from mtv, i was just listening and deciding how i felt about it all. had no idea what anyone looked like until much, much later. i still prefer, vastly, to understand an artist in sound only, wellll before seeing them. sometimes i really don't wanna see, just hear. i know this is the antithesis of today's visual-aesthetic culture but like popeye, eye yam what eye yam... i live in the music, the sounds and the ideas. visual comes later. i am happy to make some, but the audio is first, and everything else follows organically from that initial spark of the unseen.
so, thanks again folks. if you like to live in the music too, this is for you. ✌️🐈⬛
